Salubri

The Salubri were once the most noble of all clans. Always seeking spiritual enlightenment above all else, the Salubri were widely respected not only for reaching this state of enlightenment, but also for being the only vampire clan that mastered the healing arts. However, the lies of the Tremere, who diablarized both the antediluvian and the ancients of the Salubri clan, have driven the Salubri to near extinction. Most do not even remember their name, and none live to remember their healing discipline. Not all is lost though, for some manage to survive…

Disciplines: Auspex, Fortitude, Obeah/Valeren

Nickname: Soul-Thieves, Cyclops

Dark Ages
The recently created Tremere were aware they would never be recognized as a true clan if none of their members were of any significant generation. So they devised a plan. Tremere himself searched for and found the body of Saulot, the antediluvian of the Salubri, and diablarized him in torpor. Though the act effectively made Tremere a 3rd generation vampire, it also send him into a deep torpor as the soul of Saulot conflicted with that of Tremere. The Tremere, realizing their actions would have repercussions among the other clans, immediately started propaganda against the Salubri, claiming they are soul stealing demons worthy only of destruction. Unfortunally, their campaign was a success, and the Salubri became hunted by all other clans, while in secret the Tremere continued to search out and diablarize the ancients of clan Salubri.

Modern day
Today, there are only 7 Salubri left. (excluding a host of attribu that joined the Sabbat, as these have forsaken the original path of enlightenment in favour of pure vengeance, as well as all Salubri in hiding or torpor) These 7 Salubri are the last keepers of the Obeah discipline, the healing discipline known only to the Salubri. Hiding from the ever watchful Tremere, these Salubri wander the world aiding the needy and spreading enlightenment to the few they can find who do not condemn them based on the lies of the Tremere.

Embraces
The 7 remaining Salubri do actually embrace new childes. However, whenever the sire has reached a state of enlightenment known as Golconda, he asks his childe to diablarize him. This is not only beneficial to the childe, but also allows the sire to “ascend”, as the Salubri believe that the soul of those who reached Golconda can be safely diablarized and continue to live on. Because of this cycle of embrace and diablarie, the number of Salubri never rises above 7, but on the other hand, those remaining Salubri are typically of low generation.

Havens
The remaining Salubri are all wanderers, incapable of making permanent residence anywhere due to the Tremere persecution of the clan.

As a clan
Due to the constant Tremere threat and the fact there are only 7 known Salubri remaining, the clan has no organisation at all, with all remaining members either seeking their vengeance on the Tremere (attribu) or seeking to teach the way of Golconda to all willing to listen.

Strength
Each caste of the clan (the warriors and the healers) has it’s own unique discipline.
The warriors practise Valeren, which allows them to smite the wicked. They use this discipline to hunt demons or hunt the Tremere.

The Healers practise Obeah, which is the only vampire discipline group which focuses around healing. Once the Salubri were widely respected for mastering this discipline, today most kindred who know of the Salubri wont even recognize the discipline from having existed at all.

Weakness
Inherently, the Salubri have no clan flaws. However, their usage of either Valeren or Obeah will cause the Salubri to grow a third eye on their front heads, which is known as the spirit eye. Once the Salubri were widely respected and the third eye was seen as a gift rather then a curse, however these days it’s mainly seen at the source of the Salubri’s soul sucking powers (Tremere propaganda) Interrestingly, if a vampire of another clan learns either Valeren or Obeah, they too will develop a third eye.
