Obfuscate

For many clans a vital discipline, Obfuscate decieves the minds of those around the user, making them believe the user isn't there at all. The effects caused by Obfuscate are quite potent, and few creatures can see through its deception. However, animals might feel the vampire's presence even if they cant see, hear, smell or feel him/her, and are instinctually afraid of it. Children and other such innocents to whom deception is foreign might be able to see through Obfuscate as well, at the Storyteller's discretion. Vampires with Auspex are also capable of seeing through Obfuscate (see Auspex), and certain supernatural creatures simply cannot be decieved in this manner. Mechanical devices also cannot be fooled by Obfuscate, though the effect of Obfuscate lingers on recordings, meaning someone reviewing a recording with a cloaked Nosferatu on it will not be able to see it, unless that person has Auspex or a similiar power. (As a general rule, the effects of Obfuscate last for a single scene, though the very small amount of mental effort it takes to maintain Obfuscate means that the Storyteller may opt to let certain Obfuscate powers last untill dismissed.)

Powers:

1 - Cloak of Shadows:
Using this power, the user may become invisible, as long as the user remains hidden. (The user needs to seek a hideout in an out of the way place, and as long as he/she is in a dark spot, under some degree of cover and remains motionless and quiet, the user is essentially invisible to anyone passing by. However, if the user makes noise or moves, the effect is broken and the user becomes as visible as he/she normally would in that situation. Also, this power cannot stand under concentrated observation.)

2 - Unseen Presence:
At this mastery of Obfuscate the user may now move around without fear of being detected. Anyone near the user will unknowingly avoid the user as their subconcious desperately attempts to prevent the concious mind from realising the user is there. (No roll is required to activate this power, but if the user does anything that might break the Unseen Presence the Storyteller may call for a Wits + Stealth roll. The difficulty may be 5 if the user steps on a squeaky floorboard or 9 for walking through a pool of water. More revealing acts may also require greater number of successes, such as speaking quietly without giving away one's position, which requires at least 3 successes. However, Unseen Presence cannot cloak things such as breaking a glass window, attacking a character or yelling out loud. In such as case the shattering of Unseen Presence may be so powerful that bystanders may roll Wits + Alterness at diff 7 to clear the haze completely, meaning that they will be able to renember every step the user made as though he/she was never cloaked at all.)

3 - Mask of a Thousand Faces:
This power casts an illusion over the user, allowing the user to change his own features, even to the point of exacly copying someone else. (The user rolls Manipulation + Performance at diff 7. The user can use this power to both copy someone else's features or even adjust his/her own features as he/she sees fit. Coming up with your own features is more difficult then just copying some else, but an imaginairy disguise is much more easy to maintain. If the user wishes to copy someone else, the user must've gotten a good look at that person. If the user only caught a glimpse of that person, the Storyteller may choose to raise the difficulty as apropriate. Actually posing as someone else is quite difficult, and it requires that the user has at least basic information about that person.

Success effect chart:
1 Success: The user retains his/her same height and build, and can make slight alterations to his/her basic features. Nosferatu may appear as normal, albeit ugly individuals.
2 Successes: The user is capable of altering him/herself thusly that he/she is no longer easily recognizeable as him/herself. People that have seen the user wont easily recognize the user again and different individuals will not agree about his/her appearence.
3 Successes: The user changes his/her features as he/she wants.
4 Successes: If the user attempted to copy a different individual, he/she completely transforms into that individual, including mannerisms, gestures, appearence and voice.
5 Successes: The user may alter his/her features greatly. (appear as the opposite sex, a vastly different age or an extreme change of size, etc.)

4 - Vanish from the Mind's Eye:
By now the user's mastery of Obfuscate is so great that he/she can make him/herself dissapear from plain sight. So potent is the dissapearence that people might even forget the user was even there. (The user rolls Charisma + Stealth against a difficulty of a victim's Wits + Alterness, if attempting to dissapear in front of a crowd the difficulty becomes the highest total in the group. If the user scores 3 or less successes, the user does not dissapear but instead appears as an indistinct yet very disturbing ghost-like form. If a character is attempting to track the user while in the ghost-like form, he/she must roll Perception + Alterness at diff 8. Success means the character can interact normally with the user, failure means the victim cannot focus on the user and gets a +2 difficulty on any attempt to interact with or act upon the user. The Storyteller may call for another Perception + Alterness roll if the vampire moves into an area where he/she cant be seen easily, such as a dark area or around a corner. If the user scores 4 or more successes, he/she dissapears from view entirely. If the user rolls more successes then the Willpower rating of any observers, the observer(s) also forgets that the vampire was ever there in the first place. Anyone who sees the user dissapear entirely must roll Wits + Courage, diff 9 for mortals, diff 5 for supernaturals. Success means the character may react immediately, failure means the character will stand dazed for 2 turns as his/her mind tries to comprehend what just happened. Once the user has vanished entirely, the user may act as discribed under Unseen Presence, with the same restrictions.)

5 - Cloak the Gathering:
Through this power the user may extend his/her other Obfuscate powers to the people around them, allowing a single skilled vampire to cloak an entire group. (The user activates an Obfuscate power as discribed under that power, making the required rolls as he/she normally would for him/herself. The user may conceal one extra person for each dot of Stealth that the user possesses. The people under the cloak then gain the benefits of the activated Obfuscate power, though the user may only have a single Obfuscate power active in this manner on his/her group at any one time. Each person under the cloak must also meet the requierments of that power, though for example if only one person breaks the effects of Unseen Presence, then only that person is revealed. If however, the person cloaking the entire group is revealed, the entire Obfuscate power is lifted for all in the effected group.)
